The Quartet of Button Accordion Players of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine has glorious history of
firstcomers that created new artistic impressions on the academic stage.
It reflects the fate of the whole romantic
generation, that extended virtuous abilities of the national instrument, overcame the technical limitations of
button accordion and reached the new performance peaks.
Founded in 1939 Quartet of Button Accordion Players started his work in the National Philharmonic of
Ukraine since 1946. Till it was headed by the ancestor of Quartet, People's Artist of Ukraine, Professor Mykola
Rizol. During fifty years the Quartet worked consisting of Mykola Rizol, Honoured Artists of Ukraine Raisa and
Maria Beletskie, Ivan Zhuromnsky (in 1978 I. Zhuromsky was replaced by A. Tykhonchuk). The Quartet worked
in this stafftill 1990.
From 1992 the Quartet played in the following staff: the artistic leader - People's Artist of Ukraine, Laureate
of the International Competition Sergiy Grinchenko (first accordion), Honoured Artist of Ukraine, Laureate of
the Ukrainian Competition Vyacheslav Samofalov (second accordion), Honoured Cultural Official or Ukraine
Anatoliy Tykhonchuk (accordion-baritone), Volodymyr Odyntsov (accordion-contrabass).
All of them are the students of Professor Mykola Rizol and in different times graduated from the P. I. Tchaikovsky National Musical
Academy of Ukraine.
The Quartet performances left unforgettable impressions in many cities of Ukraine, Russia (1993, -94, -95, -97,
-99), Byelorus (1994), Poland (1995, -96, -97, -98, -00), Italy (1996, -97, -98, -99, -00), Switzerland (1997, -99),
Germany (00). Swiss newspaper wrote about the great success of the Quartet: "inconceivable possibilities,
almost incredible virtuosity, the highest musicality, clearness of playing, passionate self-payment of
musicians".
Since September 1999 the Quartet plays in the renewed staff.
Sergiy Grinchenko (first accordion) and that have just graduated from the Tchaikovsky
Vyacheslav Samofalov (second accordion) joined musicians,
National Musical Academy of Ukraine: Oleg Shyyan (accordion-baritone),
Roman Molochenko (accordion-contrabass).
In October 1999 the Quartet of Button Accordion Players of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine won the
First Prize of the International Competition "CITTA' DI CASTELFIDARDO" (Italy) and were Diploma of the
International Competition "ASTOR PIAZZOLLA" (Italy).
The Quartet has unique musical instruments, which differ of their timbre's painting, that
makes possible to perform various repertoire, including the musical compositions written for the symphonic orchestra.
Eager work and grand triumph of the talented musicians may be considered as an unique phenomenon
national culture, the property of this millenium.
